Guidewires
With their high-energy performances, breathtaking arrangements and infectious melodies, it’s little wonder that Guidewires are described as “the freshest sound in Irish music”.
In 2007, a chance meeting at a Festival in Belgium led to the band’s formation and the musical synergy that ensued culminated with the release of the album ‘Live’ in 2009.
Guidewires represents an all-star line up of musicians from Ireland and Brittany. Pádraig Rynne is a gifted concertina player from Clare, while Tóla Custy on fiddle is one of Ireland’s most recognisable names. Sylvain Barou (flute) is currently Breton musics hottest name and with the virtuosic Paul McSherry on guitar and Karol Lynch on Bouzouki, the Guidewires sound is both innovative and distinctive. All members have achieved recognition within their respected music genres individually and as a band they have combined to create a unique and exhilarating sound; “the ensemble sound is a dream” – Irish Music Magazine (2009).
‘Live’ has been one of the fastest selling Irish albums of 2009, described as “a spectacular, multicoloured debut” - Irish Times (2009). Recorded live at the Glór theatre in Ennis, this album showcases an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary tunes drawn from across the world; Irish and Breton music intermingling with melodies from Macedonia, Asturias and Quebec.
The groups live performances have already catapulted Guidewires to the pinnacle as one of the fastest rising stars in Irish music today.

Pádraig Rynne – Concertina
Pádraig is one of Irish music’s rising stars and even though still in his twenties he has already played and recorded with many of the biggest names in Irish TRAD music. An ex member of groundbreaking 90s Irish group Cian, Padraig has performed with Arty McGlynn, Kevin Crawford, Alan Kelly, At First Light and Flook. His solo album ‘Bye A While’ (2005) was one of the years best-selling Traditional albums.

Tóla Custy – Fiddle
The name Custy is synonymous with Clare fiddle music, and the fiddle playing of Tóla Custy is one reason for that. Tóla is one of the most famous performers, composers and recording artist that Irish music has to offer. He recorded his first solo album in 1994 and received excellent music press reviews. A founding member of Calico in 1995, Tóla has recorded and performed with Mirella Murray, Alan Kelly, Arty McGlynn, Heidi Talbot, Pauline Scanlon and Gráda - to name a few. He remains one of Irish music’s busiest performers and his compositions are equally famous and regularly heard in sessions and performances and recorded widely.

Sylvain Barou – Flutes and Low Whistles
Sylvain Barou, from Brittany is considered one of the best flute players of his generation. Playing mainly Irish and Breton music, Sylvain has played with Sualtam, David Pasquet, Guichen, Denez Prigent, Jacques Pellen and Dan Ar Braz. He has also performed with the greats of Irish traditional music including Donal Lunny, Liz Carroll, John Doyle and Paddy Glackin.

Paul McSherry – Guitar
A member of the famous Belfast McSherry family, it’s no surprise that Paul has been credited with re-inventing Irish music on the guitar. A founding member of Tamalin, Paul has also recorded and played with Déanta, Mosaic, Liam O Flynn, Christy Moore and Donal Lunny. He is also a respected Irish music producer.

Karol Lynch – Bouzouki.
Ennis native Karol is the youngest band member but shows music maturity beyond his years. His rhythmic style adds flair and energy to the band while his counter melodies leave audiences entranced. Already credited on a number of albums and having recently been invited to guest with the Chieftains, Karol is one of Irish music’s brightest young stars.
